Fishing During the Summer!

Bass fishing

When the weather gets hot in the summer months the large mouth bass develops a Summer pattern. Early in the predawn to before the sun makes it's first peak over the trees, top water is a great and fun way to catch fish. The spit'in image, chug bug or a buzz bait are a few of the many top water baits that produce fish.

After the sun rises, top water action slows down. Turn to a plastic worm, a french fry or "Nate-a-peed", which is a great worm that produces fish all year round(fish it slow and have patience).

Late evening fishing is very similar to early morning fishing, go to your top water and Hold ON!!

Information:

St. John the Baptist Parish has shore lines alongside both sides of the Mississippi River, Lake Ponchartrain, Lake Maurepas and Lake des Allemonds, four major bodies of water.

Manchac Swamp, located along the southern border of Lake Maurepas, is a freshwater swamp that is rich in wildlife. It is a swamp and marsh habitat for many birds, fur animals, reptiles and deer and supports a very large concentration of waterfowl in the winter.

St. John Parish owns land alongside the Reserve relief canal off Airline Highway that provides boat launching and parking areas for boaters, hunters and fishermen. The canal leads to Lake Maurepas.

For information on fresh or salt water action or information on what's biting and where see Mike and Joe at Natal's Fishing Pro Shop.
