Liberty Park Dance Pavillion A large dance pavilion, a fairgrounds with booths for other entertainment was also built alongside called Liberty Park. Well known orchestras provided music. When "talkies" came onto the scene in 1929, he promptly built a new theatre behind the Liberty which was acoustically built and had the latest RCA sound. It opened in 1931. Many vaudeville acts, and movie and recording stars walked the stage. He would have exclusive "sneak previews" of the newest films.  Besides the movies, he offered many other "fun" extras such as "Bank night", and "Hot Seat night", where you could win a prize for being in the right seat. Magic shows, Beauty Contests and Amateur night, were also part of the fun. In 1937 he installed air conditioning; something no other theatre from New Orleans to Baton Rouge could boast! In 1939 he opened Maurin's Laplace Theatre on Main Street, which closed in 1973 to make way for an office building. In 1948 he became part-owner of  Lutcher's New Theatre which was destroyed by fire a few years later. He also had a vested interest in the Joy Theatre in New Orleans. He loved to sing and play the piano, and sang in the church choir till he was well past 80.
