1920 photo of Liberty Theatre In 1918 he started showing silent films on the top floor of what was then known as the Sugar Belt Club, later called "Club Cafe". It was called Liberty Theatre. With no electricity in Reserve at the time, he bought a Delco Light power plant with a large set of batteries for power.  Before going full time in Reserve, he was offering movies in Garyville, Lutcher, & Jefferson College(now called Manresa). He cites Father Henry George, who was in charge of the college, as the person that helped him get started in 1918. He later branched out, and was showing movies at the Woodmen of the World Hall in Laplace. He still managed to help his father in the bakery. Life was segregated back then so in 1928, he opened the Bienfasance Theatre in east Reserve for the black population. In those times, Reserve was known as "The Amusement Center of St. John Parish".
