IN THE NAME OF LOVE

If it was starring in a major league baseball game
would it be named a sold out crowd
or would the stadium be pretty empty
your footsteps would echo so loud

If it was available by prescription
would you buy it regardless to the cost
or would you inquire about the generic brand
because the prescription's price was too much

If it was stored in a gallon like milk
would you leave it in your refrigerator at home
or would you carry it out with you
in fear that when you get home it will be gone

If it came once a year in the mail
and everyone knew the day it came in
would you go into people mail boxes stealing
knowing it was a sin

If you could plant it in the ground
and watch it bloom like a tree
would you water and feed it
or would you just let it be

If you could buy it at the grocery store
and there was a sign saying . . . 'We're out!'
would you go to another store
and double pack without a doubt

If you could breath it through the air
would you share your space constantly
or would you try to invent a way
to suck it all from me

If it could be served on a plate
as a nourishing fruitful meal
would you invite the homeless in
for a delicious dinner veal

Or would you lower your voices
at your scheduled hour to eat
whispering...'hush, we're not home,
those at the door we won't greet'

At night fall when you say your prayers
do you thank God just because
or do you jump in bed and sigh..."I'm tried"'
forgetting about the greatness...
