| | While visiting the city of New Orleans and enjoying the surrounding territories,
don't forget to include a scenic drive along the Mississippi River to the plantations
and also enjoy the thrill of a tour into the swamps of Louisiana. Cajun Pride
Swamp Tours, located in the beautiful St. John the Baptist Parish, 24 miles from
the heart of the French Quarter and only minutes to the plantations. Feel the excitement
of the moment as you
start your two-hour boat
tour into the mysterious
living swamp - the
world-famous Manchac
Swamp, a wildlife refuge
that is known throughout
the world and has been
seen by numerous
visitors. Your Cajun
guide, who is a native to this area, will give you a narrative tour, fact and fiction.
From the relaxed comfort of our tour boat we will travel into one of the most
scenic swamps of the United States. We will take you to Alligator Bayou where
the king of the swamp lives. A camera is a must here as you get your picture taken
with one of the creatures. Your captain will point out the natural food sources,
medicinal plants and wild flowers that grow in the swamp.
Amid the beauty of cypress trees
draped with Spanish moss, lies a trapper's
cabin and a cemetery deep in the swamp.
We will also be on the lookout for the
inhabitants of this pristine swamp which
may, at any time, come into view. Also in
the wildlife refuge we may see owls,
alligators, snakes, turtles, ibis, herons,
egrets, wood ducks, hawks, French ducks,
geese, and other creatures. It is unlikely,
however, that we will see alligators during
the winter months as they do hibernate in
the cold.
Surprises await in our quest to find the
American alligator. Once neighbor to the
dinosaur, he is still around to greet you.
While on tour the alligators gather around
the boat to be fed by your captain. At this
time, passengers are informed not to hang
their hands over the side of the boat. This
could be considered "feeding the alligators
by hand."
